The Chironomid post

I look at all these chironomids and I am jealous. I just tie mine out of thread or when I do chromies I use mylar tinsel, always with a peacock herl head or a clear glass bead. Been doing them that way since(egads! I'm dating myself) the early 70's. They still work so I still use them.

Nice flies.

Hahaha ;) This is one of my simplest patterns. The body is black UTC 70 thread and I use anti Static bag as the rib but I make it a little wider so the black thread becomes the rib, then coat it with Gulff varnish. I hope I explained that right.

Is there an advantage to gulff varnish over the other U.V. cures? Also how many coats? Anti Static Bag? Never heard of this?

I have tried a few different brands of UV glues, and the Gulff is my favorite, dries harder and last longer than the others. Solariz is good but its very fumey and will cause some skin reactions. Anti Static bag, the bag that computer hard drives coming in. Just cut it into the size strips you need, that simple. :)

Amazing flies everyone. Its awesome to see others patterns for ideas and also to help hone the skills. Thanks to everyone for sharing. Here are a couple I threw in the box.

I was on a black and red rib ASB kick for a while, made sure I was fully stocked for the up coming season. I tied up 24 of each size 14, 16 and 18’s in both red rib and black rib. That was a lot of flies, a lot of tying but they are one of the most common here at n the Cariboo. Here is a pick of the last 24 of the #18’s Daiichi 1760.

Here is a vid of this fly, filmed it for a buddy so he could see how I get them thin.
