Although it's not an easy hatch to hit in Alberta, I've had a few great times with this pattern. Will be trying a variation for a Golden Stone soon. Rides really nice and low in the film.
  • Hook - dry fly 8
  • Thread - Bright Orange/Red
  • Tail - 2mm Foam Body (2 pieces of sticky back foam sandwiched on the hook shank and wrapped with thread)
  • Body - Foam Body folded over top and bottom and lashed with thread
  • Wing - Swiss Straw
  • Indicator - Flurecent post material
  • Legs - Sili Legs

Nice Tie! One question though - isn't this stone in the wrong area?? Just asking for a friend!;)

It is one I'll add to my flybox.

We have a Salmonfly hatch that is a narrow window usually from about May, at season start, and peters out by month-end, sometimes into June on some of our southern streams. There are times the hatch is so early it ends before the season starts. Trout really get imprinted with these and tend to be interested even a week or two after the hatches end to only the odd couple a day.

Our Golden Stoneflies are a more significant hatch and start in early June usually coinciding with our early season runoffs and into summer.

I live in central NY. All I was pointing out is that here, salmonfly hatches are STONEFLY hatches not mayfly hatches. I am saying this with a smile on my face!
